Course description

Why do we sometimes pop into another room to collect something, only to find we have forgotten what we were looking for?  What causes a phobia? What makes us happy? This course tries to answer these questions, and many others, giving us an accessible introduction to the scientific study of mind and behaviour. You will be introduced to the psychology of personality, memory, learning and social behaviour. We will look at how the major approaches in psychology try to explain these behaviours, and you will find out about the behaviour of others, as well as discovering something about yourself.

What can this course lead to?

This course will introduce you to the subject of Psychology and will support you to progress onto further short courses such as ‘Psychology: What makes us tick?’ and ‘A Child’s World – An Introduction to the Psychology of the Child ‘.
