Course description

The successful learner will understand the factors affecting mental health and a range of common conditions experienced by children and young people.

Course content

The course typically takes 12-14 weeks to complete and would require approx. 8hrs of self-directed study time per week to complete the relevant reading, research and assessment tasks. You will have access to our online platform that will enable you to study at a convenient time and pace and will be able to contact a relevant subject tutor if support is needed. The course is assessed via a set of written question and answer assessments. There are no exams.

  • Understand the principles of mental health concerns in the context of children and young people
  • Legislation and best practice relating to children and young people’s mental health
  • Living with childhood mental health conditions
  • Understand how to minimise the risk of mental health concerns in children and young people
  • Understand causes and diagnosis of mental health concerns in children and young people

 

What can this course lead to?

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
• Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health
• Level 3 Award in the Awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
• Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (England)
• Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning
